John Festa

,

As a judge, John Festa is particular to the technical details of connection and musicality. As a dancer, he perhaps one of the most elegant. But as a DJ he is remarkable! There is a reason why people will always talk about John Festa when they talk about Swing music, he has captured the essence of swing. John played a significant role in the creation and popularization of ‘late night’ dancing.  ‘Festa’ is one of the few who still DJ’s the music of  Lindy Hop AND West Coast Swing AND Carolina Shag! John has shared national and local DJ booths with the best of the best and is the co-founder of Gotham Swing Club and Liberty Swing. He has also been the recipient of the coveted Wetzel DJ hall of Fame and too many other awards to mention.

A champion level dancer, John embodies a swing style that captures the essence of the origin of swing dancing – in fact he learned swing dancing from his parents who were also avid dancers! It was in the mid-1990s that John originated the most prominent West Coast Swing scene that New York City has ever seen, the North River Bar which put New York City on the West Coast Swing “map”. It is this special brand of ambience along with his exquisite fashion sense, that John brings to his “Blues and Soul” rooms at many national events.

We are honored to have John as our Crossover DJ BOTH Friday and Saturday nights every year at the Boston Tea Party. His is a party not to be missed!
